Studying Abroad in Your 60s? We’ve Got You Covered!

At IH Newcastle, we pride ourselves to be a school that offers different courses for everyone, all year round! Back in March we welcomed a lovely group from Spain and, after a lot of planning with its group leader, we offered a wide range of activities and lessons that made their time in England unforgettable!

In today's article, we share some comments from students, highlighting the aspects they think made the difference during their time in Newcastle.

"Classes were fun!!"

Our classes break away from the usual routine, blending fun, interactive activities that get students talking and sharing their unique cultures. At the same time, they sharpen their writing, reading, and listening skills-making every lesson not just educational, but a joyful cultural adventure!

To Silvia, "There are many students from different countries. The classes with our teacher, Emily, were a lot of fun, so I really recommend going there if you want to learn English and have fun”.

Teresa: "I felt, part of that new world. I went to school from Monday to Friday, I became a "Geordie".

"Staying with a Host Family allowed us to learn about the local culture"

Another popular request from our students was the opportunity to stay with local families. That’s why we’ve partnered with over 150 welcoming hosts who are passionate about offering an authentic local experience. Our school works closely with each host, providing thorough preparation to ensure students feel right at home. According to our students, practicing English daily with native speakers truly made their experience unforgettable!

Another students pointed out:It was a pleasure to have lived at June and Michael’s house, where every evening we had typical meals (…) they were also very patient with us and with our language skills, which got a lot better by practising with them every day after classes”".

Silvia: "I always thought that these experiences were for teenagers but now I have had the opportunity to enjoy them, in my sixties!"

But it’s not only about the classes…

Another popular aspect from our school is simply how much we love going out! Our Social Programme is one of the bests across UK schools and we believe that by visiting and joining activities, students not only get to know more about our friendly city, but get to integrate with other students a lot quicker.

Over the years, we've noticed that students who regularly participate in activities make much faster progress than those who don't, so we can't recommend our activities enough!

To Pilar: “The cultural activities were about visiting places like Alnwick Castle, the most interesting castle I’ve ever visited! Also, I liked very much, Durham, Beamish, and York”

It's great to see students having wonderful experiences in our school and we hope to see Teacher Marisol and her group of students returning to our school soon. And for those reading this, whether you’re part of a group, or considering to join us individually, get in touch: we have you covered and amazing classes you will enjoy being part of! Or, like the pictures show, there will be a lot of fun waiting for you in Newcastle!
