How Much Does It Cost To Rent Accommodation In Newcastle as a Student?

Newcastle stands out as one of the UK's most affordable student cities in the UK, making it an attractive destination for international learners. On average, students can expect to spend between £600 and £1000 per month on living expenses, though individual costs may vary based on lifestyle and accommodation choices.

'Where to stay' is typically a popular question from our students, but we have you covered! At IH Newcastle, we offer 2 options:

• Homestay Accommodation:

Here, you have the option to stay with one of our friendly families, who are carefully chosen by our team. You will have a room for yourself and the opportunity to practise your English with local speakers, with breakfast and dinner included Costs: £200/Week (includes breakfast + Dinner). Ps: this option is mandatory for all students who are under 18yo.

• Shared and Individual apartments:

This is another excellent option for those who don’t want to stay with a family and prefer to be more independent. Our apartments are only a 4-min walk from the school and shared with up to 6 students. Please note that, whilst our students share the communal spaces, such as living and kitchen, all bedrooms are equipped with toilets and showers. Another advantage of these apartments are the facilities – you have 24/7 access to laundry rooms, games rooms, cinema rooms, workouts spaces and more! Costs: £200/Week (you must be 18yo or older to stay here. Please note that no meals are included in this option).

In our accommodations, you will also find modern communal rooms for games, cinema and gym facilities.

  Please note that our prices change on an annual basis. If you’re looking for private rentals, these may differ in price, especially when considering proximity to the city centre. Beyond rent, students should budget for food (~£116/month), transportation (£28–£68/month), and mobile phone plans (~£10/month) (from ​ncl.ac.uk).
