Academic English for IELTS

Academic English classes for IELTS

 

provide tuition in:

  • Grammar

  • Vocabulary

  • Listening

  • Reading

  • Writing

  • Speaking

  • Pronunciation

International House Newcastle uses communicative methodology so students learn to use English effectively, especially in the vital skills of speaking and listening.

​

Course details:

​

Students can choose 15 lessons Academic English (AE) per week; this includes an hour of PSP per day.

​

Students can combine 15 lessons of AE with:

​

  • 10 lessons of General English (GE10)

​

Students need to be at least Intermediate (B1) level to follow this course and at least 16 years of age. This course is available for students to start any Monday.

​

The Academic Director and teaching staff:

​

  • assess each student with a written placement test and an oral interview

  • place each student in the correct level and class to learn Academic English

  • monitor each student by continuous assessment, tutorials and tests

  • offer support and advice to students

​

Our teachers are well-trained and highly qualified, and have gained teaching and learning experience in different countries, so they understand the needs of language learners.

​

We have teachers with specific and extensive training and experience of IELTS & Trinity examinations, including current and former IELTS examiners.

​

All students receive:

​

  • weekly work plans devised by their teachers

  • weekly progress updates

  • personal tutorials on a regular basis

  • course materials, including a study pack 

​

Lessons and classes

​

Each lesson (teaching hour) is 55 minutes long, so there are scheduled break periods that take this into account.


Our general class size is 12 students maximum (10 students average).

Trinity Secure English Language Tests (SELT)

​

Trinity provides Secure English Language Tests (SELTs) across the UK. These tests are valid for applications to UKVI for visas, leave to remain and citizenship: Graded Examinations in Spoken English (GESE) - A1 and B1 tests Integrated Skills in English (ISE) - A2, B1, B2 and C1 tests. *Please note: International House Newcastle is not a SELT centre.
