One of the finest places in Europe for arts and culture

  • The Sage  - an international home for music and musical discovery, bringing about a widespread and long-term enrichment of the musical life of the North East of England, providing a world-class concert venue and centre for musical education.  The Sage is the home of the Royal Northern Sinfonia - the UK’s only full-time chamber orchestra and the leading professional orchestra in the North East.
  • O2 Academy -  pop and rock concert venue, boasting a magnificent auditorium with original features in the ceiling and stairways and balcony. The venue also houses a secondary O2 Academy 2 Newcastle space with a production-complete capacity of 400 for showcasing new talent from the local area and breaking new acts on the touring circuit.

  • The Literary and Philosophical Society - 'The Lit & Phil' is the largest independent library outside London, housing over 150,000 books.  The Grade II listed building was opened in 1825 and the magnificent reading rooms remain largely unchanged.The Society hosts a wide range of events including book launches, concerts, lectures, readings and workshops that cover a variety of topics and issues. Both members and non-members are welcome to attend these events.

Regular programme of dance performances from contemporary to ballet, world to breakdance, bringing leading North East, British and International dance to Newcastle. We also commission original new works, which premiere in our theatre. Over 65 weekly classes in more than 40 different styles of dance – open to all ages and for absolute beginners as well as more experienced dancers.
