Junior homestay and residential programmes

2019 was undoubtedly the biggest and best year yet for our Junior English Language Programmes at International House Newcastle. In addition to welcoming hundreds of homestay students from almost every corner of the globe to our vibrant main school in Newcastle, we also opened the doors to our amazing new residential campus, set directly in the heart of historic Durham. Excitingly, there was even the option for our younger students to study as part of our groundbreaking Three Castles Programme; improving their English skills in Newcastle, Durham and also in the breathtaking grounds of Alnwick Castle: the ultimate for any Harry Potter fan! It was a true pleasure to greet smiling new faces as well as many returning ones, and whilst student levels ranged from beginner to advanced and ages from 10-17, one thing united them all: how much they loved each and every minute of their time with us.

So, what’s a typical week like studying English at IH Newcastle or Durham? Well, each weekday morning our students improve their English speaking, listening, grammar, reading and writing skills in lessons with our dynamic and experienced group of specialist young learner teachers. The three hour classes help students learn all about the history, culture and traditions of the UK and focus on learners developing their English alongside their new friends from around the world. After a tasty lunch, students head out on a variety of educational trips with their teachers, visiting some of the most fascinating museums, parks, landmarks and monuments that the North East of England has to offer. In the evening, along with our much-loved Junior Social Programme Coordinator, Michael, they have time to hang out and improve their social English, taking part in fun activities such as bowling, shopping and visiting the cinema. Saturdays, meanwhile, are for excursions, with visits to some of the UK’s finest tourist destinations such as Edinburgh, Manchester, Liverpool and the stunning natural beauty of the Lake District. Sundays, of course, are for relaxing and spending time with friends or one of our many caring and attentive host families.

We’ve already made plans to make 2020 even more exciting, enjoyable and educational so if you’re a parent, agent or young learner who’d like to join us here next year, then contract us now. It’ll be great see you here!
